Skymark Airlines of Japan is modernising its fleet, with plans to add up to 12 Boeing 737 MAX to join its operation.

The carrier intends to order four airplanes including the 737-8 and 737-10 variants with options for two additional jets. Separately, the airline will add six lessor-owned 737-8s to its fleet.
This order will be reflected on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website once finalised.
Skymark is based out of Tokyo Haneda Airport. It is the third largest carrier in Japan by revenue and currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 29 Next-Generation 737-800s in a single-seating configuration of 177 seats.
The airline has had a varied fleet in the past, operating wide-bodied aircraft such a
s the Boeing 767-200, Boeing 767-300ER and Airbus A330 (and at one point – held orders for the Airbus A380), but has finally settled on the narrowbody market.

Ihssane Mounir, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing.
“As Skymark Airlines looks to sustainably grow its fleet, the 737 MAX family offers market-leading efficiency and environmental performance,”
“With commonality and enhanced capabilities, the 737-8 and 737-10 will enable Skymark Airlines to optimize its fleet across all operations.”
Solid Steps Foward
It seems that the airline is focused on slow and steady growth after its bankruptcy a few years ago, which forced a change in how the airline was being operated (as well as putting to bed the A380 project), with it turning inward and focusing on Japanese domestic competitor and acting independent of the big incumbents in the country.
As Japan opens up to visitors and international travellers return, air travel remains a choice for some who don’t want to spend time dealing with trains. Skymark is there to help, and with new aircraft soon – will remain an option for those who want to take the plane.
