The aircraft in this order will be delivered between 2028 and 2030.
According to list price, the order is worth a total of around two billion US dollars. With a total of 60 A350-900s and 15 A350-1000s, the Lufthansa Group will become one of the largest A350 customers worldwide.
The Lufthansa Group already ordered ten A350-1000s in March 2023 with deliveries starting in April 2026. This aircraft type is 73.8 metres long and offers around 15 per cent more capacity compared to the A350-900.
This will bring Lufthansa up to a total of 75 A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft across the group – with 28 of which are already in scheduled service and 47 more will be delivered by 2031

Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG:
“Today’s order underlines our great confidence in the long-standing, close and successful partnership with Airbus. With the state-of-the-art A350 long-haul jets, we are accelerating the largest fleet modernization in our history. We are investing more than ever before in our history to make aviation more sustainable, to achieve our CO₂ reduction targets and at the same time to offer our customers the highest level of comfort with a first-class travel experience.
Including today’s order, the Lufthansa Group has ordered 770 aircraft from Airbus over the course of its history and is proud of its role as the world’s largest Airbus customer. With the integration of ITA Airways in January, the Airbus fleet of Lufthansa Group Airlines will grow by another 100 short- and long-haul aircraft.”
A thought for the aircraft they’re replacing
Currently, Lufthansa Group has 740 aircraft across its fleet, 250 of which are newer generation types.
As sustainability continues to be an important part of the agenda – as well as the cost of fuel (which is a core driver in saving money, especially when prices spike). Thus, in turn, the airline can lower CO2 emissions.
Lufthansa Group have already indicated that these aircraft will be used to replace parts of the existing fleet, with quad-engined aircraft in the crosshairs. These include Boeing 747-400 (8 aircraft), Airbus A340-600 (10 Aircraft ) and Airbus A340-300 (17 in Lufthansa, 4 in SWISS).
For those who want to tick those aircraft off their “must ride” list, the chances over the next few years to fly them will only decrease, as the new aircraft are inducted into the fleets, reducing the need for the older aircraft.
It might be worth checking where they fly if you want them off your list.
In terms of the new aircraft – we can hope that they manage to sort out some of the seating certification issues that Lufthansa Group is experiencing with Allegris before these aircraft take to the air.
