Lufthansa is adding further options to its Onboard Delights buy-on-board programme.
Let’s see what the chefs on the ground are cooking up to be served in the air.
Onboard Delights was introduced in February 2023 and has been continuously expanded since then by the airline. Lufthansa offers a selection of fresh meals, snacks, and beverages for purchase in Economy Class on short- and medium-haul flights. Passengers can pre-order some of these food items before departure.
With September coming, five new hot meals will be added. These will be available for flights from the 1st September on flights with a flight time of two hours or more.
They are
- Beef roulade with potato dumplings
- Chicken teriyaki
- Tortellini in tomato sauce with zucchini
- “Die Echte” Currywurst from Dönninghaus
- Cheeseburger from “HANS IM GLÜCK”

The Lufthansa Cheeseburger. If it looks like this in the air….
The beef roulade, chicken teriyaki, and tortellini are served with a dessert, while the currywurst is served the classic German way – with a roll.
Meanwhile in Business Class
For those who are flying on Lufthansa long-haul flights in Business Class, there’s some good news.
Since August 2023, premium passengers have been able to pre-select their main course on flights departing from Frankfurt and Munich. Starting 1 September 2026, this service will be expanded to most long-haul flights returning to Germany.
Passengers will benefit from a wider selection of meal options too, with them able to choose from six main courses instead of the previous three. Meal selections are available from four weeks up to 24 hours before departure.

Olaf Mauthe, Head of Hospitality Catering Management at Lufthansa, said:
“With these hot meals, we’re expanding Onboard Delights to offer our passengers on longer continental flights an additional selection. Pre-ordering guarantees our guests that their desired meal will be waiting for them on board – for a relaxed and predictable journey.”
Choices everywhere. Provided you’re paying
It seems Lufthansa has worked to bring some nice offerings to both its Economy Class passengers in the short-haul cabins, whilst working hard at delivery in the business class cabin.
That’s great to see – but there these all come at a price, be it the business class ticket, or paying for food.
For its passengers, choice will always be welcome. The cost… a different story.
