Malaysia Airlines is pushing forward with its network to China, with the launch of new direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen and Changsha.
This expansion is based on increased travel demand between the two nations, with economic, business and leisure travel. Malaysia Airlines now serves nine destinations in China, making it the second-largest international market by number of destinations.
The expansion officially commenced with the inaugural flight MH522 to Shenzhen departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) Terminal 1 on 1 July 2026 at 21:05 local time, with the return service flight MH523 departing to Kuala Lumpur at 02:45 local time on 2 July 2026.
This was followed by the launch of services to Changsha on 8 July 2026, with the inaugural flight MH520 departing Kuala Lumpur at 20:00 local time. The return service flight MH521 departed from Changsha at 02:05 local time on 9 July 2026.
Both routes operate with a frequency of up to seven weekly flights utilising the Boeing 737-8 aircraft, providing travellers with greater connectivity and flexibility between Malaysia and China.

Building the Chinese connection
With the introduction of Shenzhen and Changsha, Malaysia Airlines now serves nine gateways across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Taipei, and Chengdu, as well as Hong Kong, giving the airline reach into the country.
Combined with agreements with authorities by leveraging the mutual visa-free arrangements, for those travellers who need to access Shenzhen or Changsha, it will provide a convenient option.
