The march away from custom IFE units to tablet based solutions continues with AirAsia X to use Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as their new in-flight entertainment system (IFE) on flights to and from Australia, Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan, replacing its existing portable e-Player device. AirAsia X has turned to TuneBox (a subsidiary of Tune Group, who Air Asia X itself is a … [Read more...]
Qantas to offer Streaming IFE through iPads
In Flight Entertainment (IFE) on the Apple iPad has been an interesting development since the first Apple iPad came out (and yes, I dismissed it in the very first instant as companies would have to develop mounts... and I've been eating humble pie ever since as mounts slowly appear and things like SmartCovers turn up). In nearly all cases when an airline offers an iPad, the … [Read more...]

In an interesting move, Cathay Pacific is considering the removal of seat-back in-flight entertainment systems from its entire fleet. Why? So what *IS* Ghetto IFE?
IFE (In-Flight Entertainment) is in so many words something to keep you occupied when you're trapped in a small seat crossing distances far and wide. This is very common amongst long haul and short haul aircraft across the world (well.. except in Short Haul in Europe it seems where the only thing you get is a seat to sit in - and that's if you've been good). But there are of … [Read more...]
