Air France is considering “all options” with CityJet

20/06/2012 by Kevincm

If you’ve flown into London City Airport, you’d had noticed an airline there that looks like Air France – but isn’t Air France.

It’s CityJet – an Air France subsidiary based in Ireland.

Air France has recently released a set of measures to restore profits across the Air France group. Whilst the plan covers nearly all the French Regional segments of Air France – Airlinair, Britair (not to be confused with British Airways) and Regional – the plans so far do not extend to CityJet who have been left out.

CityJet has been reducing its costs through a mix of voluntary redundancies, shrinking its operational fleet and adjusting its network of served destinations.

However, Air France has not committed one way or another over the future of CityJet, stating:

“All options remain open to find the best solution to safeguard CityJet and its employees’ future”

“It is too early to make any other comment at this stage.”

CityJet operate a combined fleet of 23 Avro RJ85’s Regional Jets and 15 Fokker 50 Turboprops inherited when Air France Group purchased VLM.

Should CityJet go to the sale block, don’t be surprised if there is a lot of interest in the airline as it holds a very large slot portfolio at London City Airport.

Who knows, with a semi-new fleet and the right aircraft, this little airline could be turned around quite quickly…
