Day 2 of the Farnborough Air show has rolled by – so let’s see what the order books are looking like today. And for once… we’re going to start with Embraer
Embraer
In a marathon press conference, the Brazilian airframer clocked up 300 orders/Letters of Intent. So, lets dive in.
Wataniya Airways of Kuwait will become the Middle East first E2 operator with a firm order for 10 E195-E2 aircraft, with purchase rights for another 10.
Republic Airways of the USA (which a lot of you will know from the “Express/Connection” carriers for United and Delta), signed a Letter of Intent for a a firm order of 100 E175, with the right to convert to E175-E2 aircraft, and purchase rights for an additional 100 E175 aircraft.
Mauritania Airlines of Mauritania’s announced a firm order for two E175 jets
Helvitic Airways of Switzerland signed a Letter of Intent for 12 E190-E2 and purchase rights for a further 12, with conversion rights to the E195-E2
Finally Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras singed a Letter of Intent for a firm order of 21 E195-E2 jets.
Boeing
Boeing kicked off the day with a big order for it’s Boeing 747-8 with Volga-Dnepr Group and CargoLogicHolding include a letter of intent to acquire 29 Boeing 777 Freighters, confirmation of an order for five Boeing 747-8 Freighters
Vistara has ordered six 787-9 Dreamliners, with options for four aircraft.
Seacons Trading Ltd has ordered a Boeing Business Jet MAX 7 – bringing the BBJ MAX Family to 20 frames in total
Onto the lessors:
- Air Lease Corporation signs for 3 Boeing 787-9s and 75 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with Belavia to lease four aircraft 737 MAX 8 with options for two more
- Aviation Capital Group (ACG) signs a firm order for 20 737 MAX 8 airplanes – bringing their direct-buy order quantity to 100 frames
- GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) have reached an agreement to take up to 35 additional 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters (split with a firm order for 20 frames and options for 15 more).
Airbus
Airbus are playing even more secret squirrel today, with two orders from “undisclosed customers”
- 100 A320neo family aircraft, split by 75 A320neo and 25 A321neo aircraft.
- 8 Airbus A350 family by another organisation
Meanwhile, LEVEL (IAG’s Low Cost Long haul and confusingly short-haul carrier), signs for two Airbus A330-200s
Peach Aviation of Japan have converted two A320neo family orders into Airbus A321LR aircraft – making them the first operator of the type in Asia.
Finally, there was further traction for the A220 programme today (what a week ago was the C Series), with David Neeleman’s (of JetBlue, Azul and TAP) new US startup carrier (the so-titled “Moxy” carrier) putting down a Memorandum of Understanding for 60 Airbus A220-300 (CS300).
Mitsubishi
A bit of disappointing new from Mitsubishi – who have been showing off their MRJ-90 for the first time at this air show. It performed successfully at the show on Monday, but has suffered raydome damage from a ground handler. The plane is off the flying demonstration list for the day. Mitsubishi is deciding to replace the raydome with one from the US flight testing centre or from Japan.
ATR
The 1000th ATR 72 family aircraft today was delivered to IndiGo of India. No orders booked today.
Bombardier
Whilst not directly news from the company itself, it seems CityJet and Air Nordstrom have agreed to merge into one entity with a single holding company.
Sukhoi/Irkurt
Not to be outdone by its competitors, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Peruvian Airlines have signed a Letter of Intent to purchase 10 Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 and 10 Irkut MC-21 aircraft.
COMAC
COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) and the HNA Group have agreed a Letter of Intent to purchase 20 ARJ21 for Urumqi Air.
And that’s it for Day two. A lot of orders, a lot of letters of intent, and Airbus continuing to play secret squirrel with “Unidentified customers” orders – which are beginning to stack up
But the big question is simple. Why….? Are these lessors in the background, or airlines playing their cards close to their chest?
