Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (9th May)

09/05/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

It’s that time of week again, when I’ve paid for the week in sleep, as well as the point where I need to round up our headlines.

Time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

TRIP REPORT: Still for the friends

We’re moving on to activities, as I continue to power through the publishing of this trip report. Another three segments next week – four if I’m feeling a little spicy.

  • Into the USA and The Crowne Plaza O’Hare
  • The Hyatt Regency O’Hare
  • Exploring a craft at the Museum of Contemporary Photography

AIX Extra

I’ve finally got to the point where time is returning to me, I’ve kicked off my AIX Extra series – things that caught mroe than my eye at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2026.

  • Introducing Eva from Geven Seating, to fly first with Wizz Air
  • The Collins Aerospace SkyNook – turning unused space into an important offering

Routes and Networks

  • Qatar Airways strengthens regional operations – With many regional routes on the way back.
  • Singapore Airlines to expand flights to Europe, with new services to Madrid – Frequencies up as Singapore Airlines capitalises on its competitors

New Aircrtaft News

  • AirAsia Group signs for 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft – biggest order for the A220 yet… but no A220-500

IFE+C

  • Singapore Airlines to add Starlink connectivity for its Airbus fleet – Boeing’s excluded for now.

Passenger Experience

  • Etihad introduces new destination-focused amenity kits – Like Pokémon, it’s a chance to catch them all.

Rail

  • Not so Sour Times – Great Western Railway to bring back trains on the Portishead line – There was a punchline there, but it flew over most of you

Pretty Pictures

  • Spirit Airbus A320 climbing out of Chicago O’Hare – Gone, but not forgotten

Next Week

It’s another normal week at Economy Class and Beyond, as I continue the unpleasantness that’s the daily life and the changes that are going on.

So expect continued updates to the trip report that’s in flight (as I prepare the next one), as well as interesting headlines that pass over my inbox as I get them.

Until next week, Happy Landings!
